‘Cabo de Gata’? One popular suggestion hereabouts is ‘Agate Cape’. Well ... perhaps! There are many agates to be found along with other more fascinating stones. A tourist dictionary is unlikely to find ‘gata’; a better dictionary might find ‘gato(a)’, cat (female). These have nothing to do with this cape. Look up a good dictionary and you find a perfect fit. ‘Gata’s’ figurative meaning? little clouds that caress and slink around mountains, feline and feminine. Apart from wind these are our most consistent weather effect throughout the year creating waterfalls of mist off the tops and magical transfigurations of light.
Fuentecilla means ‘sparkling spring’; once there was one. Alas, no more!
What follows is a collage mainly about scenery, ecology, natural history, history and traditions - personal interests, embryonic - but will grow. We hope to share our pleasure in it.
